Dr Kenneth Zucker 101

I wrote a post asking people to sign the petition to object to DSM-V Committee Members on Gender Identity Disorders. I want to add more facts for those of you, if anyone actually reads this, who reads this and wants to know more, and is too lazy to do some research on your own.

I havent been doing a lot of research either, but Ive read everything about Dr Zucker on TsRoadmap and I see TsRoadmap as a valid source of information. If anyone disagrees, please tell me why and provide me with links to other websites with better and/or more correct information.

Here goes:

• Dr Zucker works at the Clarke Institute in Toronto. The institute is known as Jurassic Clarke in the trans community for its regressive policies
• Dr Zucker is famous for forcing gender variant children into reparative therapy to conform to his expectations for male and female behavior in children. He considers transsexual women a “bad outcome” for gay men.
• Zucker is a darling of the “ex-gay” movement because of his work “curing” gender-variant children. He’s also been working with NARTH, National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuals, and in a text on their website they say “In reviewing research on GID and parental relationships, Zucker cites one clinical study by Stoller who noted that boys who had GID had an overly close relationship with their mothers and a distant, peripheral father-son relationship. Another researcher assessed the amount of time fathers spent with their feminized boys during the first five years of life. R. Green, in “The Sissy Boy Syndrome” found that fathers of feminine boys spent less time with their sons from the second to fifth year than did fathers of control subjects. Mothers of feminized boys also spent less time with their sons than did mothers in a control group.“
• Dr Zucker disagrees with the “Free to be” approach towards young gender variant children. He  “tries to “help these kids be more content in their biological gender” until they are older and can determine their sexual identity — accomplished, he said, by encouraging same-sex friendships and activities like board games that move beyond strict gender roles.“

I personally think that trying to make gender variant children feel more comfortable with their biological sex and to grow up to be straight stereotypical men and women is wishful thinking. Its kinda like wanting world peace or a socialist revolution in Denmark within the next ten years, its not gonna happen. Not all of them will grow up and decide to alter their body surgically or with hormones, but many of them will and I doubt that any of them will grow up to be heterosexual and cisgendered.

Notice that Dr Zucker only, at least that I know of, talks about transsexual women and gay men. He doesnt even mention FtMs.
